Commercial drive is important for people professionals to demonstrate as it highlights their commitment to deliver result that create value for organisations. The people function needs to be customer and business-focused so they can prioritise the people issues, opportunities and risks that will have the most impact on the performance and success of organisations.
Through cutting-edge learning content, this course will help you to explore your role in supporting organisations in meeting their objectives. By taking you through the different types of organisations and why they exist, and how and why value is created, it will help you to better understand your own organisation. You’ll also look at how people practices help organisations drive sustained commercial success and value.
By the end of the course, you’ll know how to present a compelling business case and deliver on business outcomes. It will help you to build resilience and the skills needed to enable you to manage change in your organisation.
Throughout the course, you’ll be encouraged to take part in reflective activities to help embed your learning into your day-to-day practice. You can also access a community of peers where you can share knowledge and experience with others, whilst developing connections.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

- prioritise people practices, opportunities and risks that drive sustained commercial success and value for people
- partner with customers to understand their current and future needs, and contract effectively
- develop and present robust business cases using evidence to demonstrate a return on investment
- take responsibility and demonstrate commitment to delivering business outcomes and benefits
- demonstrate resilience in the face of setbacks, uncertainty or ambiguity and finding a way forward
- enable business change through an understanding of culture, capability and structure while mitigating people risks and maximising benefits.
This course has eight lessons, which you can access flexibly. Available fully online, you can work through the lessons at your own pace and in whatever order you choose.

Each lesson is 30-45 minutes long and includes individual reflective and community activities to support the embedding of your learning into practice.
You will be able to access the course for 12 months from purchase and the CIPD Learning Hub will remain accessible to you for 24 months.
